Most back pain is not a slipped disc
Lower back pain usually comes from a disc, a facet joint, or muscle and control problems — and each has a different provoking movement and a different fix. Scans complicate this rather than settling it: disc bulges and degenerative changes show up routinely in people with no pain at all, so a report alone cannot tell you what is hurting. Working out which structure is involved is what the first session is for.
Hurt does not mean harm
In mechanical back pain, movement is usually the treatment rather than the risk. Resting beyond the first day or two reliably makes outcomes worse, not better. Most people we see have been guarding their back for weeks and have lost strength because of it — a large part of early treatment is giving you permission to move, with clear limits on what to avoid.
What happens in your free first assessment
- Movement testing in each direction to find which provokes your pain and which eases it
- Segment-by-segment palpation to localise the level involved
- Strength and control testing through the trunk and hips, which is where most recurrences come from
What treatment involves
Manual therapy to restore movement at the stiff segments, dry needling for muscle that will not settle, shockwave for stubborn tissue, and a graded loading programme. The home programme is short and specific — long exercise sheets do not get done, so we do not give them.
If it doesn't work, you don't pay
Ten sessions, with your pain scored on a 0–10 scale at the start and tracked throughout. If your score hasn't improved, we refund the full amount.
