For tendons that have stopped healing on their own
Shockwave is for chronic tendon problems that have stalled — plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, Achilles and shoulder tendons that have not responded to rest and exercise. It works by provoking a healing response in tissue that has given up on one. It is not for fresh injuries, and using it on one is at best wasted money.
Shockwave alone rarely fixes a tendon
The evidence is strongest when it is paired with progressive loading. The shockwave restarts the healing response; the loading tells the tendon what to rebuild for. Anywhere offering you shockwave without an exercise programme alongside it is selling you half the treatment.
What happens in your free first assessment
- Confirming the problem is a degenerative tendon rather than an acute injury
- Palpation and load testing to locate exactly where the tendon is involved
- Ruling out stress fracture and nerve entrapment, which can present the same way
What treatment involves
A short course of sessions spaced several days apart, always alongside a loading programme. We will give you a realistic timeline at the assessment, and tell you plainly if we do not think shockwave is your answer.
If it doesn't work, you don't pay
Ten sessions, with your pain scored on a 0–10 scale at the start and tracked throughout. If your score hasn't improved, we refund the full amount.
